ISBE Travel Awards

Application dates

Applications for travel, housing, and registration awards to ISBE2024 in Melbourne are open now and close at 11:59 pm, Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT), on 29 February 2024. Please remember to adjust for any time zone difference if you plan on waiting until the last minute to submit your application. Important: the deadline for award application submission is FIRM – it will not be extended.

Please remember that applying for the travel award is NOT the same as submitting your abstract and/or registering for the conference. These latter steps must still be completed for you to present and/or otherwise participate in the conference.

Award eligibility

Regardless of their citizenship or country of residence, Ph.D. students or postdocs (or other recent Ph.D.s in temporary positions which offer minimal institutional support for meeting travel and participation) are eligible to apply for funding to offset the costs of participating in the conference. In addition, all participants whose home institutions are located in developing nations (as defined by countries other than high income: https://blogs.worldbank.org/opendata/new-world-bank-country-classifications-income-level-2022-2023 ) also are eligible to apply. Finally, local (Melbourne) participants are eligible to apply for registration fee reimbursement.

Award recipients are required to be current members of ISBE at the time of the conference/receipt of the award payment. You can join the society via this link: https://academic.oup.com/beheco/pages/become_an_isbe_member

In case you have any questions about your membership, the linked page also provides an email address for the Membership Team at Oxford University Press.

Application review

All funds are awarded on a competitive basis, and you will be asked to include a copy of the abstract of your meeting presentation to assist ISBE’s Travel Award Committee in reviewing your application. Funding levels and award amounts will hinge on the number of applications we receive and the travel costs of the applicant pool. Funding decisions are based largely on the likely impact of your research results on the field of behavioral ecology as judged by a panel of ISBE members.

Applicants will be notified via email of their travel funding status by mid-April 2024. If you applied for an award and do not receive an email from the award committee by April 20, 2024, please contact ISBE’s Treasurer at mhauber@gc.cuny.edu

Award distribution

Awards will be distributed at the conference in Melbourne, only in person, when delegates check-in for the conference and receive their name badges and booklets.
